CHALLENGE
The homeowner had a lovely antique china cabinet and collectibles, but needed help arranging their presentation in the room. They also wanted an antique sideboard to store linens and provide serving space when they had large dinners. In addition, they wanted to add some new art and curtains to really pull the room together.
RESPONSE
A beautiful cranberry floral fabric which has a vintage feel was chosen for the curtains. The colors in the fabric pull together the various colors used in the room, including the paint, wool carpet, china and collectibles. In the spring the pink in the curtains matches the pink rhododendron right outside the dining room window! The curtains were kept simple so they did not overpower the room. Two new pieces of art were added to to the large wall. They are actually beautiful silk embroidery pieces that shimmer with the light.
An antique oak sideboard and mirror were found which complement the china hutch perfectly. A beautiful delicate antique chocolate set which had gotten lost in the china hutch was placed on top of the sideboard. Antique cranberry and white collectibles are arranged on top of the china hutch, allowing the china and pieces remaining in the hutch to shine. The cranberry color in the room provides some warmth and vibrancy in contrast to the calm green walls. The end result is a warm and inviting space that showcases the homeowner's lovely antiques.
